High Demand Suggests Strong Air Cargo Peak Season

High demand for air freight from Asia has already led to space being tight on several routes and we are only just about to enter the traditional peak season.

Many industry experts believe we will witness one of the highest peaks ever this year, and some fear the current capacity will not be enough for all of this year’s demand.

Airfreight capacity has been further stretched by the situation in The Red Sea, with containerships avoiding the region all year and making longer journeys around Africa. This has led to severe shortages of space on vessels from Asia, higher costs, and a subsequent increase in air freight demand.

As ever, demand from the retail and ecommerce sectors are likely to be strong at this time of year, ahead of the busy sales periods of Black Friday and Christmas. While new electronic product launches, such as phones and tablets, require lots of the available space.

With high demand comes higher rates and the Asian market fluctuates heavily between supply and demand. Therefore, we have already seen price increases on several routes and that trend looks set to continue into what should be one of the highest ever peak seasons.
