Rate Increases Incoming As Asia-Europe Capacity Tightens

Asia-Europe ocean freight rates are on the rise again, with major carrier networks announcing a General Rate Increase from July 1st.

Demand is currently outweighing available capacity, which places carriers in a strong position to push through further rate increases, following the GRI already implemented earlier this month. The level of increase will vary depending on the route and carrier.

While services appear to be operating close to full capacity across all major networks, with only three blank sailings reported this week, space remains tight across Asia.

Many carriers are unable to accept bookings for sailings before July and beyond, as it becomes increasingly difficult to secure space, especially at short notice. As a result, early planning is essential, and importers are advised to book as far in advance as possible.

It is still unclear whether current demand levels are the result of an early peak season, with importers front-loading orders, or whether the situation will continue through to Golden Week in October.

Unique Forwarding is closely monitoring developments and working with our regional partners to secure space wherever possible. Should you require any further information, or have concerns about any urgent shipments, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team.
