Shipping Delays Hit Southern China After Typhoon Ragasa
Logistics operations across Southern China are facing major disruptions in the wake of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which battered Guangdong province and the Pearl River Delta earlier this week with winds reaching 125 mph.
The powerful storm triggered temporary closures at key airports and seaports in the region, while many factories and businesses also suspended activity as a precaution.
The timing has added extra strain, with China’s Golden Week holiday (October 1st–7th) fast approaching – a period when factories traditionally shut down from September 30th, pushing exporters to accelerate last-minute shipments.
Those pre-holiday efforts have now been heavily disrupted. Both airfreight and ocean cargo are now experiencing delays, with some consignments likely to remain at origin until after the holiday break.
Although port terminals began resuming operations yesterday, the aftermath of the typhoon is expected to cause lingering challenges for ocean freight, including congestion, vessel bunching, and freight backlogs.
Unique is continuing to monitor the situation and to update clients of any shipment-specific delays. In the meantime, if customers are concerned about urgent or time-sensitive cargo, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team.
