The UK government has this week suspended duty on a range of products which it has referred to as ‘everyday’, in order to boost economic growth .
The tariffs will be zero rates for duty between 27th April 2025 and July 2027 on 89 summer themed products according to the government announcement.
The action is expected to save UK businesses around £17 million for each of the next two years in duty.
The products included are under specific commodity codes, but come under the products pasta, fruit juice, coconut oil, pine nuts, spices, plywood, plastics and gardening products.
Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said “free and open trade grows economies, lowers prices and helps businesses to sell to the world, which is why we’re cutting tariffs on a range of products. From food to furniture, this will reduce the cost of everyday items for businesses, with savings hopefully passed onto consumers”.
Adding “As we face a new era of global trade, this government is going further faster to make Britain the best country to do business, delivering on our Plan for Change. These suspensions are just another example of that”.
